Backup software

    Hi

    Does anyone know of any backup & restore software that can restore to a disk other than that used to create the backup (hope that makes sense)?

    I just read that back and think I ought to expand. I have two hard drives and have backed up my system partition to the 2nd non-system disk. If my system disk is lost, e.g. hardware failure, I need to be able to restore the system backup to a new replacement drive. Does anyone know of any software that can do this?

    Yes there are options for this and you have the perfect setup for this in having 2 seperate HDDs, I use Acronis True Image but you can use EaseUS ToDo which is a freebie alternative to Acronis and all you have to do is to setup and scheduled or run manually a Image/Clone of your C Drive, this Image/Clone can be recovered in the event of a major crash ir issue, and will just get your PC back to how you left it with OS and all apps. files etc intact (does depend on regular backups as your recovered image is only as good as the date it was created)

    Fully endorse Halo's recommendation to use Acronis or an equivalent for this sort of thing. Just to clarify what can be done, you have the option to create a backup file that can be stored on another drive or partition, along with other stuff if you want, and which can be used to restore your entire system to a different or to the original drive.

    But with a second hard drive you also have the option to create a clone of the original drive, A clone requires the entire disk, which cannot then be used for any other purpose.

    A cloned disk can simply be substituted for the original and will be identical in every respect.
