    Good evening...

Is there a preference in MG as to which back up software might be best, or better than most? I have
    1) the WD backup software that came with the new hard drive
    2) Norton Backup that is part of the 360 Security suite that my ISP provides
    3) AOMEI (which it tested and is VERY slow) and Comodo that Lifehacker rates 1 and 2, and
    4) for WD users, a promo as part of the new hard drive purchase for Acronis at $39.99 which is a cloud backup that says it will take my entire PC

  2. I would suggest Macrium they are reliable and with paid version extensive backup features. You can use the free one which is what I do and it works good, you just have to enter in scheduled backups manually. The speed depends on how much information your backing up.

Personally, I make images rather than backup the computers.
My husband and I store our important files off the computer in at least 2 different places; usually different USB sticks. Pictures, I usually burn to a data CD before I do any editing.

    1) I own 7 Western Digital hard drives. I have NEVER set up or used the backup software.
    2) I now avoid Norton, even if it is free (I think at one time Comcast offered that. I never used it). So I wouldn't be using Norton Backup.
    3) I don't remember if I tried AOMEI so I can't comment on that program.
    4) I use Acronis for imaging, not backup. I prefer to have everything rather than just selected items. Although, I don't want my important/private files in the cloud so if that is the only way the $39.99 program works, I wouldn't use it. If you have the option to image and/or backup locally then I'd use it.

A lot have mentioned Easeus. Since it is free, you might want to try it and see if it suits your needs

  4. Yes imaging is much more efficient than file backups. I guess when I say backup I mean an Image Backup. Personally the bulk of my information is already on a external hard drive.
