I am looking for the best backup software, either free, coomercial or shareware to backup to DVD (preferably straight to DVD +R Double Layer (8.5gigs) for XP pro.

I've checked out MS backup but that calls for a floppy diskette apparently. I don't have a floppy drive for my laptop. For the AUD$79 they want for an external floppy I might as well buy a commercial backup program.

I've checked out the backup programs on MG using the google custom search on MG and nothing leaps out at me as immediately suitable.

Any suggestions? I want a full backup of at least 5 gigs to back the initial load on my laptop. Bazza

are you just looking for a backup image? (say, if you got a virus and everything wiped, you port the image back to your system and everything works hunky-dory?)

If so, look at Norton Ghost.

Thanks for the replies. I want to make a full backup of my laptop as it is now. Then I want to re-partition my hdd, so I want to have something to fall back on, in case something goes radically wrong.

I tried installing a magazine copy of Paragon Drive Backup (a couple of times). It installed OK, but there did not appear to be anyway of running it, once it was installed.

Acronis True Image deluxe is next on the list.

I have backed up, using Sonic's Record Now (as provided by Toshiba), via the Recovery Disc Creator shortcut, all the stuff as originally loaded by Toshiba, as there are tons of proprietary stuff common to most laptops. 3 x DVD's. I assume one is the hidden FAT32 partition, the second is probably my C: drive as originally loaded, and the third is Toshiba Applications and drivers.

Anyhow, today's the day, for major surgery on the laptop. Bazza
