i recently bought a kodak digital camera and installed the software cd onto my computer for uploading the pictures.
now after doing that the first time i have come online i had my firewall window popup asking me if i wanted to allow this file backweb-7288971.exe ..it said destination was for kodak so i allowed once. i havnt had any problems with this that i know of yet, but i wasnt sure what this file was so i did a search online and this is what ive found...

    http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/detail.php?id=3591 says..
    "Filename: backWeb-7288971.exe
    Program Title: KODAK Software Updater
Rating: 2 ( Not Required at Startup - Application Launcher, Microsoft Office Application )
Comments: Kodak Camera software updater, runs in background to check if new updates for the Kodak Easyshare software are available from the Kodak website."

i also found this site http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/b/backweb.asp and it sounds not good.
ive also seen other sites say that backweb-with#'s is spyware adware and can have virus's.

so my question is.. what do people here know about this? safe..yes? no? if this is bad, how do i remove it? and can i still upload pictures to my kodak file?

    any help pelase, thanx

I also read PestPatrol and disagree it sounds not good. It says Backweb CAN be used maliciously, but your talking about your Kodak camera using it. It should have had terms on install explaining any possible things you would be concerned with. My guess would be that having it related to a Kodak camera means its a large reputable company, so in general, I would not consider it a spyware concern. You should easily be able to remove it by going to start, run and type in msconfig and go to the startup tab, uncheck it and reboot.

You have 3 choices. First, leave it if you dont mind an extra running program and use your camera constantly. Second, remove it from startup and run it occasionally. Third, check for updates yourself manually.

if i do that step where i go to START then run and type in msconfig .. then i take the check mark out of the one that says kodak backweb-7288971 ..does that remove this from my computer, or just stop it from when my computer starts?
and with this done, i just cant get automatic updates right? i can still upload my pictures to the kodak file and everything else will work fine, except for it checking automatically for updates. i dont really need it to check for any updates.

    Hi FNK,

This just disables backweb on startup - everything else should be OK ;)

Basically, you can update your software by finding the software page and bookmarjing and checking occasionally.

ok i did that step where i take the checkmark out of the one that says backweb, and then restarted my computer.
after the computer started up i had this message..

you have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way windows starts.
the System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the Utility to run everytime windows starts.
choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility.

then it has a box asking me to not show this message again.

is this normal? do i just leave it as is and click to not show that message again?
