Bear with me on this story. Please.
Ok, so I built a computer approximately a year ago. It was working just perfectly for a couple of months and then one day when I went to boot it up, it started and during the boot sequence, just died. I pulled the cover off the side and tried it again and the CPU fan acted like it was having trouble getting started and then it was going and then the computer shut down again. I replaced the power supply (it was a rather cheap one anyway) and it was still doing the same thing. So I figured it had to be something in the motherboard. I contacted Gigabyte, sent it off and they sent it back. I installed the board and everything worked great for awhile. Then it the same problem started happening again. I contacted Gigabyte yet again and they actually just replaced the board. While the board was sent off the second time around, I had my spare computer (the one I'm typing this from) in use. My 41 year old boyfriend (who never, ever messed with a computer until I came around) decided to shut down the computer upon my request. To do this, he opens the door to the computer cabinet and hits the power switch. I started freaking out about this and come to find out, he had been shutting my other computer off like that as well (and quite often I might add). *rolls eyes* He now knows the proper procedure for shutdown. Well, after I discovered this, I get the board back. I installed it and left the cover off when I went to boot it up. I noticed the CPU fan stall a little bit on startup. Then it proceded to act normal. Then, the dreaded happened and the computer shut down about 10 seconds into the boot process. This is a second motherboard and it's a Gigabyte, which is a rather good product. Odds of the problem being the motherboard is pretty well zero. The stalling fan leads me to believe that it could be the cause. I'm going to try and hunt one down tomorrow, but I wanted some thoughts and opinions. Is there anything else that it could be? Am I missing something? Also, would my boyfriend's ignorance be the cause of the fan being screwed up? He says he doesn't think so. And if the CPU fan IS the cause, why did it work for awhile AFTER I got the motherboard back the first time?

The cpu fan starts up like that on mine also and my other boxes too. Sounds like a heat issue of some sort. can you get into bios and look at pchealth status?it will give you the temps there

It shuts down before I can get that far.

take a fan and set it beside the open case (standard box fan )and see if you can boot.

All I have are ceiling fans. :( I'm really hoping it's just a faulty CPU fan. If by chance, after I go and purchase a fan tomorrow, I still have the same problem, what should I look at next? Remember, I've already replaced the power supply.
