    Try these:

    Go to:
    1.) Control Panel
2.) Sounds & Audio Devices icon (or MultiMedia Icon)
    3.) Audio tab
4.) In 'Sound playback' make sure the 'Default device:' drop-down box
    correctly reflects your soundcard.

    1)control panel
    2)sounds and audio devices
    3)Hardware tab
4)sound card should be listed... highlight... Properties
    5)Properties tab
    6)Audio Devices
7)highlight sound card and click Properties
8)If audio features are disabled... select "Use audio features on this device"
    9)restart computer

    Click Start -> Run… type : services.msc

Click OK. A services (local) window will appear. Scroll down to Windows Audio and double click on it.

A Windows Audio Properties (Local Computer) will appear. Change the startup type on the drop down list to Automatic

Click Apply. And then click Start to make the Service status change to Started

You could be missing the sound driver. When you go into device manager tehn Sound, Video and game controllers do you see a yellow exclamation point?

It seems strange that the drivers should suddenly disappear (unless you have an unusual soundcard), and if they were not there, their absence should show up under Device Driver, as suggested by pclover (below). You need to make sure it's enabled and working properly in there, as well.

At any rate, you would need to post the soundcard details if you're after drivers, unless the soundcard is standard with the motherboard. I've just had a quick look, and it seems that the motherboard comes with integrated (built-in) audio. Have you added a soundcard at all?

Come to think of it, it might pay you to do a repair of your Windows installation (using the disc), as it may be that the installation didn't quite get everything properly installed.

Are you saying the drivers are gone because of that error you got, or is Device Manager telling you they're gone?

Do you have an installation disk that came with the computer? You should run it if you do.

There is a driver here that might work, but you would probably do better to post on the Driver Support Forum to be sure you're getting the right thing:

IF you reinstall windows xp from a retail copy you will loose all your drivers.
