Bad FPS

Yes, i know that on first glance it may sound software related, but i have trimmed it down to my hardware. Well for one, i'm running XP Home on a system with a P4 Prescott LGA775 with HT running at 3.0ghz. I have a foxconn mobo and 1gig of ram. The problem is, on BG2 i have to run it on medium settings for it to run right. On the CS:S stress test i only get 80FPS tops. I have a high quality copper HSF and the cpu runs at 40 celcius idle I have attatched an everesy log to help you out some more.

 

Also, i got an antec SP-350 (350 watts)

 

what resolution? try 800x600

try THIS as well

 

the resolution for medium by default is 800x600. though this isn't a BF2 specific problem, I'll take a look through that

 

2 things that are hammering your performance, the SiS motherboard AND the 6600, there isn't much that can be done from your setup that can help improve your setup WITHOUT upgrading to something more powerfull. BF2 is an extremely resource intensive game, My previous setup - A64 3700+ / 6800GT / 1GB of ram had a tough time having alot of high quality settings.

 

so the SiS mobo is really slowing it down? IS there any mobo you could recommend (under $100 please) that has an AGP slot? I have also seen some with both Pci-e and AGP slots...

 

Play with drivers.... The latest drivers aren't always the best!!

 

do you know of the best forceware drivers?

 

BF2 doesn't run anything lower then the set its provided with from the CD/DVD (which is like 2 releases ago). To answer your SiS question, the chipset its architecture is built on is inherently slow, im not too familiar with Pentium mobos/processors since there are just so many out there. PCI-e and AGP combo mobo's arent FULL AGP mobos, the AGP slot is reduced to 1/4 or 1/2 the speed of a standard AGP mobo.
