I installed a pc3200 512 mb ram chip on a dell dimension 2350 desktop and it worked fine for about two hours then there was kind of a flutter and a blue screen came up that said win xp had recovered from a serious error , memory dump or something , when i rebooted it it was still there, I took the new ram chip out and it was fine , put it back in and got the blue screen.
the new ram chip was gskill the old was a kingston 512 mb but im not sure if it was 2700 or 3200 , what can i do?
could the chip have just went bad when i was installing it?

Could the chip have gone bad? Well it could if you weren't wearing an anti electrostatic wrist strap at the time or you hadn't at the very least discharged yourself on a nearby metal object first. There is always the possibility the chip was duff to start with of course.

What's the error message on the bluescreen? There are several different reasons for bluescreen errors, and bad memory is only one of them.

id rather not put it back in to see the error , it was a cheap chip anyway and yes i always discharge myself on a nearby metal objuct , usually the tower.
I am aware of the hazards of static electricity.
I think im just going to leave it alone for now that guy doesnt really need the last 256 mb of ram for office use anyway.
