Bad sound quality + headphones get recognized as speakers

Hello hello!
Well just about today while I was playing a game, the sound became a little weird, I first only noticed not hearing voices and some other sounds, then when I tried playing music I also didn't hear the voices, only sometimes. Then I checked the cable to the headphones if it was broken somewhere. Later when I tried to re-plug it, it recognized the new "device" as speakers. I downloaded the latest drivers, un-plugged the headphones, installed and rebooted and plugged the headphones and it still recognized the headphones as speakers and the sound was still weird. So yes, any help appreciated...
