    hello,

thanks for the fabulous malware removal thread. i followed it to the letter (i think?) and i'm still having computer issues. there seems to be a trojan: some PEV files? i'm not computer saavy so i seek further guidance. i tried the 'still having problems' kapersky virus tool scan. my computer kept shutting down midscan. the desktop won't keep my chosen screensaver keeps going to black background. browsing is an ever increasingly slow pain in the butt. often times pages keep running after they're closed. so... it's beyond my skill level.

    thanks for your help.

No, the last log is C:\MGlogs.zip from MGtools which you still need to attach so that we can continue.

pev.exe is not a problem. It is a program called PevFind and is used by ComboFix and other programs to help in the malware fight. SUPERAntiSpyware is incorrect.

Based on the logs you have attached thus far, you may not be having malware problems, but we need to see the MGtools log to know for sure.

    You're welcome.
There is nothing for us to do. You are not having malware problems. You don't have enough memory installed in this PC to properly run current updated versions of Windows along with protection software and other software you run. Your logs show the below:
You only have half of what we recommend for XP. We recommend a minimum of 1 GB.

And in addition, your hard disk space is getting too low. You have:
While this may sound like it is a lot, it is not. Especially when you have so little memory and applications will have to use disk space for swapping.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks so much! I bought the computer used in a foreign country 'cause I'm touring. Guess I'd better invest in something new and correct next time.
    Keep spreading the love...
