Can anyone point me towards good tutorials on Broadband bandwidth restrictions?

I have a few questions, like:

    1. If I currently usually achieve >550KB/s on my MG downloads, on ADSL2+, from my Aussie Mirror (Internode)--see thumbnail on today's downloads, am I going to achieve greater speeds using an "N" rated Modem/Router than my "G" rated Modem/router or will Bandwidth restrictions still limit me to current speeds?

    2. I assume/know Broadband bandwidth restrictions apply, depending on time (of the day) and the number of customers active at the time, (doh) and nothing you can do about that? I once downloaded programs from MG (via Internode) on Christmas morning and got double that speed, so I guess that proves it. :-D

    3. Do any Download speedup programs actually work? They promised up to 300% improvements (in ye olde days) when dialup was more common than Broadband. Anyone using a "speedup program" nowadays on Broadband (ADSL or better) and have found an improvement on Download speeds?

I guess I know the answers to these questions, but I would appreciate your contributions.

    1) I think the ADSL2+ max bandwidth is 24 Mbits/s so wouldn't think using a G-300 Mbits/s modem as apposed to an N-54 Mbits/s modem would make a difference since both are well above the max bandwidth of ADSL2+.

    2) Ah, so you were the one slowing me down on Christmas.:-D Yep same here.

    3) As for download managers, think it depends on what browser you're using. I've found that Free Download Manager, Leechget and the DownThemAll Firefox extension were an improvement over Firefox's standard download manager. It seemed to me though that Opera's built in download manager worked as well or better than the third party managers.

Where I made the most improvement on mine(aside from switching to ADSL2+) was through the use of the SpeedGuide.net TCP Optimizer program.

Thanks heaps, plastidust. You confirm most of my suspicions. :-D
I also used to use Leechget in my DIALUP days.

I will check out your link. :cool
