Okay so i've just got a laptop for christmas and have the internet set up on it.
The main computer is connected to a modem, router etc...
The internet works fine, except its seriously slow. The main computer seems to be getting all the speeds for downloads etc.
Is there any software or anything, where i can limit this? And say have the main PC using about 70kb/s of the internt, and i get the other 170kb/s ish?...
    Thanks in advance, Josh.

How close to the router and what brand? I have a laptop that actually gets lousy connections from as little as 20 feet away, I bought high gain antennas. If your getting a very good signal, you may want to look for new drivers for your wireless cards. There are also wireless tweaks, such as channel setup, etc that may help improve signal and quality.

The desktop PC and router is downstairs, im directly above it and the signal is "Excellent"
Its a belkin g router, not sure if this means anything but its "54mpbs" etc...

The laptop has no card, its built in. Before one of my kids logged on to that computer, my speeds were 200kb/s + like normal...

Uh-oh, befoe the kids logged in. Do a scan with spybot or Super Antispyware and report back to eliminate that. Though the card is built in, it is still a wireless care and has drivers.

Thanks for all the replys. Neither of my computers have viruses, and ive just checked for updates for the built in card and nothing was found :(

Tried optimizing my connection like it said on that webpage and its still slow. Theres nobody on the desktop PC at the minute, yet my speeds are still struggling to reach over 20kb/s.
    My router is "54.0Mbps"
I asked the sales person, and he said it shouldnt limit the speed of my connection to this laptop, but it starting to think it is and i need a 'beefyer' router?

Did you try it while the Desktop is Off, and the Laptop is 3 feet away from the Router?

The speed seems to be running fine now.
Ive adjusted a firewall on the router from the desktop PC, and my downloads are running smooth.
Also found a little gadget called "NetLimiter" and stuck a 20kb/s on whatever it was they were downloading!

My router seems to stop working after abut 2 hours use though.
Then i just unplug is and wait 30 seconds, plug it back in and it seems to refresh itself. Its always hot when i pick it up, so is this just caused by over heating?
It is sat ontop of my desktop in a pretty small corner with a radiator! haha.

Thanks for all your replys and help guys!
