Hi! My mother requested from me a banking program for DOS or Windows Vista/64-bit. Where can I find one?

I wouldn't help anyone do it!

What do you mean by 'banking program'?

Although it is highly advised against using outdated Operating Systems to perform financial transactions online, cant she just access the banks website through the browser and log in there?

Its more secure today using her banks 'web application' (app) on her smartphone for transactions as banking web apps have superior security against unauthorized access today!

Yes what REPLICATOR says. Here's my bank's words. Probably similar with other banks ---

I wouldn't advise the use of 'third-party' apps to sort financials.

These are not supported by the majors and are usually developed for the money market rather than true security.
What I mean is that developers of these apps, usually rush them to market in order to get paid, paying little attention to web app security protocols.

Sure, MG's checks their files for all malicious content because they list them here and get paid for it in advertising, but that does not mean these applications may be wide open to various forms of exploitation because the code used to build them may well be unsecured.

Use applications or direct official websites which are true to your financial institution in question, whenever performing any financial transactions online.

Dont fall for marketing techniques by those who care little about you......just your money!

Whatever program/method she uses is going to require her to create and keep secure the data needed to log in. Are you satisfied she understands that and can comply?

I thank all of you for your input. I think my mother wants a database of her transactions and not to share information online.

She just needs a spreadsheet for something that simple, Excel if she has Office or the built-in spreadsheet app in any office suite.

    Isn't Apache OpenOffice a third-party app?

Right, not only "3rd party" - but OPEN source, which means that anyone can slip code in there... I'd trust closed source first.

Yes it is, but its not one that requires online interaction with financial institutional transactions, its simply an office program......Im sure your smart enough to see that?

Any open source applications download point worth its salt, runs a verified checksum to prove the code is original.
These may include either ASC, MD5 or the latest you beaut SHA256.

Open Office is one such program.......see here for verification dependent on your OS!

Neither do the two programs I suggested, they are simply financial database programs... I'm sure you're smart enough to see that?

You don't understand how open source works.. if I put some malicious code in there it can get compiled and then generate some hashes "verifying" it is real, then you just installed a backdoor to your whole system or maybe a key logger. https://hackaday.com/2018/10/31/when-good-software-goes-bad-malware-in-open-source/
If you trust anything with a hash, I'll write a program and provide the hash is you promise to run it on your system.

Not so, if you use an authorized download point (link) it is foolproof!

We use these everyday with code from GitHub.com in order to ensure suitability on security apps designed by true geeks.
Its like the internet as a whole, you gotta know what your doing.

Me thinks you don't understand how open source works!
Your malicious code would never make it to production mate , unless you could supply it via a dodgy link which no one worth his/her salt would even pay any attention to, but I doubt you could even make that a reality.
Dont underestimate security researchers........they are smarter than you think!
