Bartschel bombshell

Hi Folks, I'm new to the forum, I have a friend who is running win/xp, she uses people pc as her ISP. Recently she updated to SP2 and now everytime she signs off the net she gets a windows error pop-up that reads;
"Cicero UIWndFrame:bartshel application error-The instruction at 0x7470b439 referenced at 0x7470b439 memory could not be read"
Can anybody tell me what the problem is and how the heck to fix it? I appreciate it.

Welcome to MG. I can give you some info on BARTSHEL.EXE:
bartshel.exe (one l) is apparently some kind of utility installed by People PC's dial-up service. You can remove it if you don't use People PC.

With that little bit of information, everything I can find recommends disable it in startup and (depending on what version she has) if you have any problems re-enable it. It seems to be more of a tracking and pop-up feature than a connection requirement.

Also, since this started after sp2, some of the other members may have another solution or reason that sp2 would cause this error.

Thank-you so much for the info. That really did help, once I realized we were dealing with peoplpc I upgraded the software from their end, to their 4.0 version, and that cleared it right up. I hope this might be helpful to others who might be having conflicts with this ISP and SP2. I am surprised that peoplepc does not do automatic upgrades and to reinstall their newest version is like signing up for the service all over again.
