Bartshel..shutdown

I just installed people pc on to my gpa's computer. As soon as I turn on the computer I get an error message that reads "This program has perfromed and illegal operation and will be shut down". as long as I dont have any programs running I can just click it and it goes away but if I have a internet window open it will close it. how do i fix this?

 

bartshel.exe (one l) is apparently some kind of utility installed by People PC's dial-up service. You can remove it if you don't use People PC.

If you do use People PC however, you can also just hit ctrl-alt-del and under "processes" close it -- you stay connected and problem goes away.

This is the downside of using a cheap ISP. BARTshell.exe is a file from the PeoplePC software. This program (BART shell) uses the Internet Explorer installed on your computer, the scripts for internet explorer depend on JAVA programing. Some times gthere is a java script error not allowing the user to browse also causing the BART shell to cause errors and shut down.

I don't know if you tried Firefox if this may override the problem?

Reboot and retry it. However, if you plan to stay with PeoplePC you will have to do this EVERY time you log on. Bartshel is a major resource hog on the CPU, so give it time to bring up the process window after you press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

 

i use people pc on my own computer. im using right now and i have never had a problem with bartshel. why is it only on my gpa pc and not mine?

 

i am now on gp's pc and i have ctrl-alt-del. but then it just shows up agian.

 

A lot of users experienced no problems with it until they downloaded the updated version. I'm guessing you have had the old version on your PC for a while and what you have just downloaded onto your gp's PC is the new version, which is what is causing all the problems.

It will just keep re-appreaing and you have to keep deleting the process.....THAT is the real problem. There is no solution short of not using People PC. Here is a link that gives you a lot of other users' experience. You may want to decide whether you want to use a different ISP for your gp's.
