I live in a condo and my neighbor, that I share a wall with, either owns a drum set or has his TV speakers next to the wall, because I feel and hear BASE like crazy as it thumps and thumps and thumps
I have talked to him about it, he won't do anything..
I want to do the same thing, have big BASE much up his world, I can't focus when I am in my own home to do work, so what can I do or better yet, get?

If the condo has a committee to deal with this sort of thing....approach them.

not a good idea to provoke your neighbor with more bass of your own. besides, that wouldnt help you any if youre already having problems with his. if he cant hear his over yours, hed probably turn up the volume.

    win-lose situation.

Throw some golf balls in the clothes dryer, then go out for dinner; works like a charm.;)

    :-D At Star's idea.

First off talk to them. Which you have done. Next, talk to who you pay rent to. If that does not work, I would talk to the police and find out what the noise laws are in your area. If he is violating them, call the police and file a report every time he violates the noise laws.

Cranking the base back at him, while it is fun, brings you down to his level. Good luck!

Make sure he doesn't own a gun, and that he's not a thug who works as a bouncer at a strip club. ;)

Oooh, can really imagine what that would be/feel like!!

If the condo has a management office and/or board.

In your case I'd write a letter/email to the condo management about it and ask them to contact your neighbor about the noise and ask them also to keep your complaint anonymous. There must be other neighbors who are being bothered by it? Follow it up with them if there isn't any result coming out of it.

We live on the ground floor of a condo that has patios. The owner next door had a dog who did its business on the patio. What a stench, especially in the summer. My husband used to hose off their patio regularly. :-D We complained to management in writing and it worked. The lazy woman got off her butt and started to walk the dog off the property ;)

    Ive talked to him

I don't pay rent, I own this place, fixed mortgage

Ive talked to the cops, they have told me to contact my areas sound division, problem is this, the sound isn't drums or anything constant at all, it has to be a TV or speaker to music and when a loud scene comes on the TV I hear noise or if he plays his music it beats.,..never more than 5-10 minutes
so how am I supposed to get someone out here, when there is no loud sounds, just my wall vibrates,...I will call them and find out

    sink to his level?
Having a taste of your own medicine helps teach you what you are doing.. I'm not being vindicative so much as wanting him (he's 25ish and does construction, although he's a wimpy dude, he's in school, cause we talk and are somewhat social) to understand what misery he puts me through.
since I'm not getting an answer here, Im going to keep looking, but I was already going to call the noise patrol as that's what my lawyers said to do.

thats just it, when Ive talked to him, he's just confused, saying there is no noise.
I really neeed to have him just come over when the noise is going on, I might do that later, but right now, this place smells cause of those bodies.....;)

I've been in that place. It sucks.

It sounds like the condos don't have sufficient noise reduction and his tv or speakers are against the wall.

We lived in a townhouse about 10 years ago and our neighbor liked to have people over on weekends all the time until about 2am. I can't tell you how many times my husband walked over and banged on the door. The walls in our bedroom would be vibrating or when it was really bad, you could hear the words to the song. The guy would turn it down every time hubby would go over, but it was horrible.

Ask the guy if maybe he could move the tv if it's against the adjoining wall. He probably won't do it, but you never know if you ask nicely. It couldn't hurt anyway.

We live in a condo and have had a similar situation with 2 different neighbors. The first one is a young guy and while talking to him has helped...on occasion, it's still at times an ongoing problem. He has for the most part been more considerate BUT, he has given keys to multiple (young) friends and they are by far, not at all considerate.

The other neighbor is an ex-military man who normally I would have the utmost respect and appreciation for but he has managed to whittle away at that until I no longer even acknowledge him with a friendly hello if I see him. Pretty sad b/c not much really gets to me.

So neighbor #1 we have had to resort to complaints with the condo association. the threat of hefty fines per incident HAS helped and the number of 'friends' who come here to party has dropped significantly to the point that it's been a couple of months without the noise.

Neighbor # 2 likes to go out into the parking lot (which is outside of our 3rd story bedroom window) and no joke here....bang on a large cooking pot with a wooden spoon in the middle of the night while in a 'sing song' voice chanting about those who have not parked in the manner he thinks they should or chanting about how all of his neighbors suck b/c one of the sweetest ladies living in the building has (had) lung cancer so we were all uncaring (!%(%Y)%*(# and !)%U"#$(U#$() b/c we didn't go see here everyday.

In the case of neighbor # 2 Chris tried politely talking to him (#2 was once again drunk) but all the guy could do was launch F bombs to everything that was said while telling Chris he needed to go back in side and mind his own business..Uhmmm..hello? YOU, arsehole are disturbing everyone so that makes it our business! Someone else called the police and that calmed things down briefly. The homeowners association again stepped in after multiple complaints and things have calmed down quite a bit. People just don't want to pay those hefty fines!

Whether you are a renter or an owner there are options. If talking to the guy doesn't result in long term results..research to find out local laws, neighborhood policies, etc, and don't stand for it. You don't have to be rude or overly confrontational...for the most part IMO, being friendly works best but the line has to be drawn at some point.

Having him come over to 'hear' the noise is a good idea...but then again, if he's hard of hearing...maybe he needs to be put in touch with services to find out whats available for those with hearing problems?

We live in a terraced (town) house and have occaisionally heard noise from one side. It's a yound kid. Normally it's not a problem but we have had to go over once when my wife was on night shift and trying to sleep during the day.

On the other hand, I have been redecorating our living room and put in a new home cinema system. I've seen both my neighbours and they have my phone number. I've always said that if they can hear anything through the walls to let me know straight away. I can't imagine living somewhere you don't get on with your neighbours. To have noise coming through the wall and not be able to do anything about it would really wind me up.

Boy, RexNoctis, I wish that I had neighbors like you. Civility in the U.S. is becoming a rarity.

I agree, but he is 25 maybe? so is youth an excuse to be dumbass?
no, but....I've also heard him and his wife having sex....and my rooomie told him, just being neighborly so they'd know..and the thought occurred to me they might play it loud only when having sex.....which doesn't make sense till you understand I think they are now getting divorced, at least she hasnt been home much and when she is home, I hear fighting....

    so....

then another noise pollution issue that drives me nuts is, I sit on my 2nd floor near the front of the condo, so I have a window in the room,(can't see out of it from room darkening shades)
and when ANY neighbor comes or goes, they have to use their keyless remotes to BEEP BEEP their horns.....
    huh?
well, I started parking on my driveway, and not in my garage, and I have the keys next to me and when they HONK HONk, I'l HONK HONK...one dude "fought" with me for 3 minutes, just us honking...
    now thats ****ed up

Youth is an excuse to be a dumbass once! The kid in our case is 12 and if he's asked to turn it down, he does.

We used to live on a main road, the normal traffic noise would become a drone in the background but at night without much traffic, a single car could be annoying. Especially those with big exhausts! Now we live in a cul-de-sac with no passing traffic, I can have the windows open again at night.

How much of the place do you own? Do you own the walls on your side? If so, could you refurbish them with soundproofing in between? e.g. cavity wall insulation.
