    Hi,

Just running through the Basic Computer Maintenence instructions. Ive downloaded CCleaner and ran the main cleaner and the registry cleaner and deleted a few things. But now Ive got this list of Startup programs and Im not sure which entries I need to delete.

'Spybot Tea Timer' seems quite useful. BitTorrent I do use but not sure what 'BitTorrent DNA' is. The same applies to Adobe- I use Adobe Reader but I don't think I need it on startup...'HP Health check' sounds helpful but god knows where that came from! As for the other entries I am open to suggestions.

    What does anyone think?

    Thanks,

    Chris

I have moved your thread to the software forum. Unless you are having malware issues, this is a better place to receive advice.

I use one of the following programs to disable startup entries: Startup Control Panel or WinPatrol.
    1. Tead Timer can cause lags on a computer. If you aren't noticing a slowdown then I guess it is okay to keep it running.
    2. nmbgmonitor.exe uses excessive system and memory resources with no corresponding benefit. Applications such as these should be disabled to improve overall system performance.
This was the recommendation at PCPitstop.
    3. btdna.exe is the BitTorrent peer-to-peer content distribution network. Disable unless you know you want to use BitTorrent, since this program may cause excessive network usage. The DNA program can be uninstalled through Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
Since you use BitTorrent, I suspect you will need to keep it.
    4. jureg.exe I'd disable this. I prefer to do my own java updates rather than having something checking for updates. This might be from an old Java version that might need to be removed.
    5. Ditto for TkBellEXE. You don't need Real checking for updates.
    6. Adobe Speed Launcher also doesn't need to run at startup. Adobe Reader will still work fine without this running.
    7. SunJavaUpdateSched does not need to be running at startup.
    8. launcher can be good or malware. I assume from some other entries that your computer is an HP. If that is the case, then this applies to you.
So, if you have made your recovery CDs/DVDs, this can be disabled from starting up.

Look in add/remove and see what you have listed as far as Sun Java.
