    d620 dell
    win7
    3Gb ram

    New battery
Laptop will charge battery when plugged into adapter
Battery shows as active in control panel (100%)
Battery icon in system tray also shows 100%
Laptop boots and runs fine while plugged into adapter
Unplugging adapter shuts down all power instantly

    Replacing battery changes nothing
Both batteries work fine in another d620

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.
This indeed describes the problem that I am having.
However replacing the motherboard on such an outdated machine seems counterproductive.
I just hate to abandon a machine that basically works.
Oh well. I'll hold on to it as a "parts" machine.

    Thanks again.

I kept an HP notebook for years beyond the battery working. I simply used it plugged in all the time. It was great for watching DVDs in bed.
Just consider more like a "desktop" computer, in that it simply needs to be plugged in.
