    Hey Guys,

I have a compaq/hp presario v2000 and my battery doesnt take a charge any more. I contacted hp and they told me i need a new battery. I purchased a new battery and it still doesnt charge.

My laptop works fine on ac power and occasionally it makes a whistling sound. I have been told it could be a motherboard problem? Is this true?

If someone has an idea of what could be the problem any help or info would be great!!!

    Cheers

When you say "it doesn't take a charge" do you mean it doesn't charge or that the system isn't charging it?
To check if it is charging you can go to the Control Panel and look in Power Options then choose the Power Meter tab

This is on a Gateway laptop and the window may be a little different than yours.

Hello Rubix, welcome to Major Geeks.

Do you have any sort of warranty for the laptop?

Unfortunately the person who told you it is the motherboard is probably right.
HP told you the first thing that came into their head, did you mention the 'whistling'?

Normally the first item to go is the main battery. These are not covered under most warranties.
But the motherboard may well be, so check the dates.

What i mean by not charging is that it only works on ac power...when i go to that screen you inserted it says decharging or running on ac power

its not under warranty anymore...which kinda sucks...but im guessing that a motherboard problem is gonna cost a bit to fix...If its to expensive i will just buy a new one i guess...:cry

i been told recently that it could be the circuit charger on the motherboard? Does anyone know what this is? Or how much these things cost?

    Cheers

A number of years ago I had a laptop with a similar problem.
I even think it was a Compaq.
The charging mechanism in the laptop had indeed burned out.
Replacements are not terribly expensive, but unless you have a great deal of skill with replacing parts in a laptop, I would suggest you have a trained technician swap out the recharger.
The insides of laptops are very (by necessity) cramped.
To get to the charging module in my old laptop meant totally dismantling the entire computer.

Im gonna take it down to a technician in the next few days and i will get a quote...
