Battery won't charge

Hey all. I was given a Toshiba Satellite L300D running Win 7 Home Premium with some battery/charging issues. The notebook runs fine as long as it's plugged into the wall charger, but the battery charging LED on the front doesn't light up, and the battery icon in the taskbar has a red X through it, and it says "0% Plugged in, Not charging". If I pull the DC cable, the machine just dies instantly. It runs the exact same with or without the battery installed. I've just reformatted the machine, and the problem existed both before and still after the reformat, so I don't think it's a software thing. I've also checked through the BIOS settings for anything that looked weird, but didn't find anything. I reset the BIOS defaults just to be safe though. Still have the same problem. I would instantly blame a bad battery, except for the battery charge LED not lighting up. I just wanted to see if anybody had an ideas before I spring for a battery which may or may not fix the problem. Thanks.

 

First two words that came to mind: charging circuit.

This is not something that is ordinarily user serviceable.

 

I read somewhere that there's a fuse for the charging circuit on the mobo. I'm assuming it's surface mount....

 

So I took a gamble and bought a new battery (pretty cheap of eBay....), not knowing if the issue was the battery itself, or the charging circuit on the mobo. Turns out, it was battery. Put it in and everything is working fine now.
