Battle for the Middle EarthII performance

It gets slowed down when there's a bunch of units on the field, no matter what you play it with, testers.

Is there anyway or program with which one can try to smooth this problem a little bit?

I haven't played it (and I can't remember the options for the first one), but are there any shadow or water effect options? Those tend to kill framerate. Make sure you have the latest patch, too.
If you have an AMD dual core processor you should get their Dual Core Optimizer.
