    Alrighty then.

A recent PM has prompted me to post this.

Lets compare ram usage of today's browsers.

Any browser goes, but preferably the most up to date version of said browser. Settings are irrelevant, keep the browser as how you would use it to make it more accurate as a real world result.

    Rules:

    1. Only one browser window open, only one tab.
    2. Do all tests from http://majorgeeks.com home page.
    3. It is highly reccomended that you post a screenshot of your task manager (for nix users, use top in a console window) quoting your memory usage. Otherwise, someone might call your bluff.
    4. The browser tests must be performed ON THE SAME MACHINE for every test!
    5. One browser result per post, please.
    6. Mention your OS and Service Pack level.

Ok, I'm up for a challenge (I don't normally mess with mods, but here goes)

    FF 35,312
    IE7 43,024

    XP Pro SP2

I couldn't work out how to insert a thumbnail and it's too late to go a-searchin', so you'll have to look in the attached jpeg - oops it happened by default :cool

And I'm surprised that Adrenyline has got anything other than Bill's stuff running, from what I hear about Vista. Just ordered a new Dell to ensure I can get it with XP Pro - that way all my old drivers, printer and other peripherals will all work.

    :D

Quite a difference on usage shane and Adryn. I wonder what causes the differences?

To your own comparisons, yes, but not to the ones everyone else is doing, hence the instructions ;)

    Thats a great question.

Augie and Steve, are you using IE7 Pro?

That could attribute to the differences.

No, just the Google toolbar. I was more interested in the FF results as mine is fresh out of the box.

Now here's interesting (well to a know-nothing like me, anyway)

Same FF as my previous post in this thread (2.0.0.8), same system (XP Pro SP2), but new profile, no add-ins, bookmarks or sidebar: was 35k, now 27,244.

So just having the extras on board increased FF load by over 30%

that is a good example, would be the add-ons that would make the difference I would imagine

    thankyou Wiseloki :)
