battlefield 1942 install problem

ok first off i had it installed once on my D drive (game drive) well none of the patches would find it there(not sure on that). well my computer went through a major melt down and i had to send it back to the maker. after i got it back i decided to install the game again over the last install so hopefully the patches would find it. now it freezes on 48% and displays the following message.

"specified component cannot be found in the media. an attempt was made to access a component that does not exist in the named media"

worse yet it destroyed my original install so i can't play the game anymore! thats like taking crack from a crack baby i need that game!
anyone got any ideas!?!

 

Did the problem start with DC0.3?
If so did you use the zip or exe file? the zip file will f the game up.

Delete everything (game) and start over
Make sure to tell ...ALL...the patches where to go D:\program files\EA Games\Battlefield 1942
Some patchs depending where you got them from try to install to the OS default drive.

maybe i wasn't clear on my problem.
the game will not reinstall. i deleted everything to do with battlefield on my computer. now when i try to install the game i get this.

 

Are you installing from cd or hard drive? (virtual CD drive)
Only this CD having the problem?
Download?
Virus software running?
Dirty or scratched CD?




I tried to install from VCD and got the same message. (could never get a copy that worked)
So I installed on reg DVD drive...then change the drive letters and play on the VCD drive.

I have all my cd's software & games copied to the hard drive and use the VCD to run them. But BF1942 never worked that way.

well i'm trying to install it directly from the factory Cd. onto my C drive and not my d drive. i called the text support and they said hook another computer up to it and try installing from that computer to mine. i've tried installing it from both CD drives i have and its a flawless disk no scratchs or smears. hopefully sometime this week i get my usb external harddrive and try install it somewhere else onto it.

 

OK a couple more things for you to try


Delete everything and delete or modify (value not set) all EA games BF1942 registry enteries.

Put the cd in your cd rom ...open windows explorer...find the exe install file....right click.... then properties...then compatibility
....run this program win2K

worked find i changed the drive letter of my cd drive and cleaned the disk again even though it didn't need it.
