Hey i've got a major problem with this game. Battlefield 1942 starts perfectly, loads battles perfectly, but in the middle of gameplay (both online and offline) the game just closes in a blink of an eye right to my desktop. Not even a warning or anything!!! I went to their support site and did EVERYTHING* they said to do in such a case. It still closes. I checked minimum requirements... perfect and still closes. I just don't know wut to do. Can u help?
P.S. I have an NVidia GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X video card. It's in the minimum requirement. Please help... (their website is www.battlefield1942.com)

    Thanks!!

if it were me, i would uninstall the game, delete the install folder, and reinstall. if that doesn't work, then'll we'll look for a different culprit.

    btw, welcome to MG!

Try turning your settings WAAAAY down and make sure you have the latest graphics card drivers.

Also make sure you have the patches for battlefield 1942.

im going to go out on a limb here and say it might be the video card over heating. try what snuffles said and turn all the settings all the way down, see if it still happens

Is this happening at about the same time into a game? Meaning.......does it CTD at the same point every time?
Does it happen on all maps.
Have you installed any mods or addon maps?

I can't really think of a reason why it would continually crash even after a reinstall. I've been playing Battlefield for a long time & I've not come across this problem before.

Maybe posting this on some of the Battlefield forums will help you find someone that has been threw this themselves.

Heres one, do you have any other programs running? virus scanners, firewalls, ect?

    Go to C:/Program Files/EA Games/Battlefield1942/Mods/bf1942/Settings

Look for the VideoDefault.com file. Open it with notepad. Look for

    renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

If it has a 0 after it, change it to a 1

    save it

    Try playing then.

On my old computer, I had to leave the desktop video settings on 16-bit, 800 x 600 : 60mhz refresh rate. Install the game, expansion packs and patches. Change the videodefault.com file. Then I could change the desktop video settings to whatever I wanted and play BF1942 just fine. I never knew why I had to do all that stuff but it worked. :)

One more thing to try. Turn the sound settings down some if ya haven't already done that.

I run the game @ 1024x768 32bit 85mhz refresh, graphics all cranked up to the max & I usually get like 80-100+ fps on most maps with a full room.

That used to happen with my StarCraft, but the problem fixed it's self. :|

Sorry for not responding for a long time. No, this problem doesn't happen every time at the EXACT same point. I changed all setting to down, both video and sound settings. It happens on all map i think (didn't play all maps). No, i haven't installed any mods or add ons to the game (except the patch of course). No, i don't have any anti-virus programs or spyware programs on. I do have a firewall, but thats not the problem, because i can play halo online without a problem. Plus it quits when im playing offline too. I already did the video default.con thing. Suesman, wut kind of video card to u have, that u can run with those settings? Thanks for u're time people.

Hadn't thought about the NO CD thingy. If you're running that, it could very well be the problem. I've read in the past where alot of folks had problems with that. Yea even offline. :(

GeForce4 Ti4200 128meg @ 275/550. Now it does drop off sometimes, but that's to be expected with any game, never lower than say 50 or so. ;)

    P.S.
I'm also running 1.5gigs of ram & the RAID config which I'm quite sure helps alot.

Ok, I am going to do all the steps that MASTER said. I think that will work. But, unfortunatly, I can't do anything now because if u read the programs message board, u will have noticed that i can't log on to my comp anymore. When that is fixed, i will do all the steps u said, and i will post the summary of my hardware, even if the problem still persists (i guess other peeps could also have the same problem, so u would know how to fix it ;) ) BTW, thanks ALOT for all of your help peeps. Thanks ALOT.

    Don't worry Ace

Don't worry Ace, i didn't lie to u. I first uninstalled the game. But there wuz still other stuff in the install folder, do i deleted the whole battlefield folder itself. Then i again installed the program and the same problem occured. I think it has nothing to do with the game. I still don't have access to my comp, so like i said, i'll follow the steps that master said asap.

didn't think you did. if MT would have read the posts, he would have known that his suggestion had already been suggested.

Ok man, I just assumed he'd follow your directions. This why I never install Map Pack, or anything that I'm not putting in myself. I even create a new folder to run the .exe's into then drag them into Battlefield.
