I'm not seeing how I use the cd key changer for Battlefield. I downloaded the program, unzipped it, am running it now, put in a valid cd key, but I don't know how to transform my old key into a new one? How do I do this?

When I click set, it just copies my existing key into the ACTIVE KEY box without changing it....

well i dont have the game installed myself so i cant check but you sure the key is valid? i.e. the hyphens are in the right place, or not there at all or whatever...

I think this is the same as the HL keychanger, if so just double click the key you want to activate..

I own the game so I know my original key is valid, and I'm not entering in the hyphens like it says to do, but its still not transforming my original key into a new one......Anyone had problems with the Battlefield key changer like I am?

I've never understood why you would need to change the key in the first place. Not tryin' to be an icehole, I just don't see the need.

Maybe someone could explain the need for this?

Well if you had a copy of the game, for example, but then gave it to a friend or lost it or somthing, instead of having to re-install the game you can just buy the new game and edit the CD key thats in the box to the new one.

Or also if you were on a LAN in a net cafe or somthing where you want to swap keys around somtimes... for whatever reason.

OIC thnx man. I really just didn't understand why someone would need to. LOL

    EDIT:
I'm not advocating warez or stealing of any kind here so.................

So in theory I could make a copy of the original cd to use to play the game? Because I would like to eliminate the chance of screwing up my cd just to play the game. I tried making a copy, which allows you to use it to install, but not actually play the game. :(

If this oversteps the boundries of warez posts then I will gladly delete it.

You can get tools like Demontools which will let you overcome CD protections (which you can get a proggie here to find out what protection you have on the disk...) when using an image or a normal CD drive.

So if you were, par se , to rip an image of your game onto HD for backup, then "mount" the image with Demontools, apply the appropriate copy protection emulators, and you can play the game fine.

As far as i know this isnt constituted as piracy, since its not duplicating the CD and its your game that you own... so.....

And yes its very useful for not getting your game CDs scratched up!

Thnx man I will try that out. they just made it so you can't use say just the Vanilla BF1942 cd to play all mods. Now you have to insert the BF to play BF and the RtR to play RtR. It's a real pain in the butt switching out the cds when the room you're in is changing games. :(

In the case of Half-Life, I own 4 mods I dont even play, Counter Strike 2-3 copies of Half-Life all in the past 5 years. If I get banned from a server, I swap my key and go back :) Or, maybe I want an alternate personality to a certain key :) Or, maybe one of those cds was given away, or damaged. This can be applies to a lot of games, especially with released retail mods like Battlefield.

Well... I tell ya what, Mike. If Battlefield is anything like Half-Life, the CD key will be in the registry. Just for kicks, try looking under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and look for the battlefield folder or anything related to it. Look around in there, and if you find anything that relates to battlefield, look around even more. The CD key for Half-Life games are under a Settings folder, so might just wanna give it a shot. Ya might get lucky.

Be very careful what you're doing in the registry. Just a forewarning, because I don't wanna know I was responsible for screwing your computer up... okay? Backup anything you plan on playing with in there, and if you're weary about it... just don't do it at all.
