I keep on geting this error when i start the game

"this application failed to start because of file d3dx9_25.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem"

I have updated to directx 9.0c but my dxdiag says its still directx 9.0b

I have reinstalled game several times and reinstalled Directx several times to no avail.

I have downloaded and from the BF2 cd and installed file d3dx9_25.dll into the BF2 folder but the program still will not run

DirectX comes with the installation on Battlefield 2.

Have you tried a reinstallation? Also, do you have the latest patches installed?

i have tried reinstalling the directx but it takes 2 seconds for it to finish and complete so i am skeptic if it realy installed it or not. Patches im not sure.

No, try a reinstallation of the whole game.

Battlefield 2 comes with a DirectX installation on it.

The latest patch (1.22) can be obtained from the EA website I believe.

Right i have followed all the instructions and YES my sp2 did come with windowxp so i cannot uninstall my version of sp2 easily...i am now at the part where i have directx9.0c but dxdiag shows up directx9.0b which denys me of my games. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to remove sp2? ive tried showing hidden files and using the run and dont work. Add remove program doesnt work either. Any help please???

You can't remove SP2 if it was included at the time of install.

Try uninstalling DirectX 9.0b using the tool in the link, then install 9.0c.

i have uninstalled directx9.0b succesfully (checked dxdiag it says none on directx) and then installed directx9.0c and dxdiag still says it is directx9.0b. however on the directx happy uninstall it says i have directx9.0c. but it doesnt matter because my dxdiag says B so i cant play the battlefield.

What happens now when you start the game?

Does the DirectX troubleshooter report any problems?

See if the error is listed in Event Viewer (start, run and type in eventvwr.msc ).

And what does the DirectX troubleshooter say, any problems found?

    Try reinstalling the game again.

Has the game ever worked, and what are your system specs?

    Your video chip isn't supported.

It must be an nVidia GeForce FX 5700 or greater, or an ATI Radeon 8500 or greater.

You will need a better video card.

no i talked to a frys technician. he looked it up and said there is no compatability issue with that graphics card to play it. =/

i am completely aware of that sir but i am skeptical because i played the demo with no problem and it was an even worst card and on a slower computer.

    That means nothing.

how does that not mean anything...i can see you are really trying to help me and i really appreciate it. There is an actual bug like this where directx cannot be showun up on dxdiag unless i tweak something. can you please help me with that instead?

Just because it ran on another machine with a slower video card doesn't mean it has to run on yours, which has an unsupported chipset.

Short of buying another video card, I can't help further.

Even if you could get it running, it would be so choppy as to be unplayable.

BF2 is a demanding game. The rest of your specs are pretty good, it's only your video card.

If you're a gamer, get a better one.

    Nobody is on anyone's side.

We don't promote arguing here, this is a technical support forum, not a debating forum.

Despite the fact your card isn't listed in the settings, it should still work.

Tell me, are you running a firewall at all, apart from the one included with SP2?

Battlefield 2 should be set to allow on all settings in your firewall, this was a problem I encountered.
