I have a Gateway DX4300-11 w/Windows 7. I have installed a 2nd 1 TB hard drive. Upon start up I get the blank screen with beep-beep-beep, continually. The system will not boot into the operating system. I pulled the plug and took off the cover and pulled the sata data cable and the power cable to the 2nd drive. Started it up again and went into the BIOS. It says under Integrated Peripherals:
    Onboard IDE Controller: Enabled
    Onobard SATA Controller: Enabled
    Onboard SATA Mode: Native IDE

And then it goes into the USB Controller. Should the Onboard SATA mode be switched to RAID or AHCI? Or is the refurbished hard disk drive probably bad? I bought it at MicroCenter a few days ago.

Thanks for any help you can be!

Just wanted to add that my first HDD or main HDD is a sata 1TB. The 2nd one I just installed is a Hitachi Sata 1TB. I don't understand why this won't setup, it is either the BIOS settings or the drive is no good, or the PSU? Does my PSU have to have a lot of power to run two HDD's?

A hard drive requires minimal power to run, I doubt that's your problem. The data cable going to your "new" hard drive might be defective, you can try a new cable.

It is not necessary to run the drives in AHCI or RAID mode. So, that's not the problem.

If changing the cable, or running the new hard drive by itself in the system doesn't work I'd say you have a defective drive, and to stay away from refurbished devices in the future.

Another thought is if you're trying to run Master/Slave with the two SATA drives. SATA drives run one per cable and won't work in a Master/Slave configuration.

mdonah, I have not configured Master/Slave to these HDD's. Also, I thought that was only possible with IDE drives.

abekl, I think I am going to surmize that the drive is bad. I had installed it in a different computer as the only HDD, and it did the exact same thing. I will be returning it tomorrow. Thanks again for your feedback!
