    Hi Guys.

I was on my pc last night and it crashed, no errors or anything just the whole screen froze. So i went to go make cup of tea and returned 5 minutes later, the screen was still frozen. So i pressed the reset button and immediately doing so the monitor stayed blank, nothing would show. At the same time my pc was making bleeping noises... 4/5 second long bleep, 4/5 sec silent and it would repeat this until i held down the power to turn it off.

    Solutions i've tried/

I've taken graphics card out, used on board graphics, replaced graphics card with the office pc's graphics.

Taken out RAM, tried with only 1 slot of ram, in both slots. Tried ram from office PC.

Taken out all eternal peripherals turned on, the same.

I've not tried taken out my cmos battery as when i got my new HDD, i had to install SATA drives with floppy disc, was a nightmare so i would do it if a professional thought it could be the cause.

Any help would be really appretiate, thanks in advance.

Removing your CMOS battery cannot remove drivers as the drivers are for Windows, which is stored on your hard drive, which does not delete anything when it has lost power.

When you remove your battery, leave it out for 1/2 hour or so, just to make sure.

    Ok, thanks Colin.

I'll do just that, do you think if my battery in my home office's pc is the same stats, it's worth putting it into the other PC to see?

and do you think a dead cmos battery could of caused a pc crash? and causing these bleeps?

    Thanks for quick answer.

It is far more likely that the BIOS settings being corrupted is the cause here. A dead battery is unlikely to crash the machine whilst it is running, it is far more likely to just make the clock run erratically.

    Ok, thank you.

I'll go take out the battery now, leave it out for 1/2 hour and report back :)

Took it out, left it 1/2 hour, put back in and still the same.

Even tried using the csmos battery from this machine in the office as it was exactly the same battery, still getting the bleeps and blank screen.

    Driving me mad:)

Can you please post the make and model of the PC so we can look up the error code?

It's a barebone bundle that i got from novatech, i'll try have a look for it.

I'm not overly computer savvy but is this what your looking for?

    Foxconn
    M7VMX Series
    N15235

I went onto foxconns website, found this..

    Repeated long beeps

    Memory error

Yet, i've taken both RAM out, blown them. Rubbed ends with a rubber, turned on PC with 1 stick of RAM in both slots, did same with the other stick of RAM and used the RAM from this PC.

This is not a good idea as it leaves a layer of rubber over the contacts. Your best choice is cleaning alcohol specifically designed for electronic applications.

It might be a failed slot, or a failed controller, or it could just be rubber particles now.

    How old is the mobo?

I don't press the rubber onto it, i sort of slide it. It was a method that worked for me a few months ago when my pc wouldn't start up.

It's pushing on almost 2 years i would say now,i don't want to spend loads on it. It's only cost me about 300 quid to build. If there isn't no easy solution i'll probably get another. But strange that it was working fine, 1 crash and it's making these bleeps.

    If it's a failed controller/slot etc.

    What could i do?

I've not tried booting PC up with windows XP cd yet, would that be worth it?

Surely if you are having these errors you cannot get past POST therefore you cannot load a CD?

If it is a failed motherboard component, then the cheapest and easiest solution would be to replace it.

Yeah that makes sense. just thought if it was fail controller, the cd might help but as i said i'm not that comp savvy.

Because the computer had a screen freeze, i thought it was graphics.. and when i turn on the pc the monitor power button just flashes as if the pc isn't even turned on... but i changed my graphics card to another one and it's still the same.

Is it worth taking it to novatech or something? as i wouldn't have a clue how to change a slot or what ever it is.

Like I said, really the only cure for a RAM slot or controller failure is a new motherboard, as motherboard circuitry is layered so a replacement would cost much more than a new board.

Okidoki, new system it is then. It's been a couple years anyways.

    Thanks for your help today.
