We're pleased to let you know that there's a new release of the Belarc Advisor (version 7.2) that you can get at:

This version adds reporting of installed MS Office hotfixes, the latest CPUs, and OSes (including Vista beta).

Ok...so, still only for XP Pro.

The CIS has no benchmark for XP Home... sorry.

    No CIS for Vista either?

The rest of the info is fine.

    Hi Halo,

The CIS began work on a Vista benchmark in June, but it likely won't be released until after Vista ships. You can check up on that at the CIS web site http://www.cisecurity.com

    Thanks for the info :)

Would loved to have seen how Vista in default un-alterned form ( default install ) would fair with those tests, guess I will ahve to wait a while, BTW are you testing your products presently for CIS and Vista or do you also have to wait until CIS have finished?

    Hi Halo,

Our products are CIS certified, so we won't ship a CIS Vista benchmark until the CIS has finished its consensus process.

My question is thus. Where on the belarc site, is the changelog?

I daily download updates on MG, but I'm a fiend with changelogs.

How much of a fiend am I?

I daily download updates to both Firefox and Thunderbird, but before I do this, I read what has been changed since the day before. I also notice file size changes.

BTW, I do this at work too.

Belarc typically updates, when MS, updates their patches for their OS, or other apps.

My score has gone from 3.13 to 1.88 :p because Belarc (new version) has advised me that I am 2 MS updates behind.
Belarc is great that way in stirring me up to keep my updates up-to-date.

I never bothered, before installing Belarc originally, as I had XP SP2 (like a lot of others)
and considered my PC "safe". Bazza
