    Hey everyone,

I just ran a Belarc Advisor Security summary on my back up pc, and it shows like 80 out of the 100 items it ran the check on, to be unsafe, or not set up properly.

How concerned should I be about this report ??

Is there a good source I can go to, to learn how to make all the neccessary adjustments, to make this PC more secure ??

The PC has a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro on a clean HD, and if it matters, I have Microsoft Security Essentials running for the Antivirus.

I'm an "advanced beginner" when it comes to understanding these things...

    Thanks,

Hi and Welcome to the forum

I wouldn't be too worried with the results but what are the main issues that Belarc found? don't post the log/report as it has some personal info and serial numbers in its results, but just type the main issues it found, say if it was a Guest Account that's enabled that is listed as an issue etc

Majority of the results are for networks and its likely as a home PC you don't need to change any settings, and worst of all changing something may make your PC or some apps unusable as the warning from the CIS score says below

But in the results you get from the Security score, you should be able to click the links to what it found as an issue, then the page should tell you what the fix or adjustment is.

I tried to run the latest Belarc and the security part of it does not like Windows 8 so doesn't give me any results,

You can check some of the advice here > How to Protect yourself from malware! and install say Spywareblaster from the suggestions as this app is good at prevention of nasty sites actually loading on your PC, it does not run in the background.

But MSE is good for your antivirus software, but remember do not install too many anti-virus or anti-malware apps that run live as they don't play well together.
