in the arse? I tried to plug in a USB flash drive. XP found it and off I went. With Vista, I'm screwing around for the past 20 minutes because it can't find the driver? What driver? It's PlugNPlay right?

Well, that's Microsoft and a new OS, right? Remember what a nightmare XP was when it first came out? and then all the problems with service pack 2?

Oh yea wait, my jump drive works fine on my new install. Perhaps its something else causing the issue?

Whats the flash drive make and model?

Do the makers of said flashdrive have Vista compatible drivers? ( not all drivers are supplied via microsoft so its not all their fault if 3rd party companies are lazy to update drivers )

Plug and Play still needs a hardware ID code to be recognised, so either its driver is in the cab driver pack in the OS, or the OS searches the MS database for updated drivers, these are supplied in most part my the 3rd parties.

Have you contacted the makers of the flash drive?

What is the exact error message thrown up when the device is not aquired?

Is your Vista install a new clean install or an update?

Do you have any yellow ! marks in Device Manager, if so what?
