I recently found a few Trojans on my new PC. What is the best software to PREVENT trojans from getting onto my PC in the first place?

I can delete them after they happen, but want to stop them happening, at all.

I run lots of programs as part of my daily housekeeping and nothing detected them, until I downloaded and ran removeit_pro.exe from MG.

I have A squared. Should I include that in my startup programs? Is there a better one? Bazza

Personally, I like to use Symantec AntiVirus corperate Edition. I have had it for about a year now and no problems with viruses, spyware, or trojans.

    Cost money though. :(

well when i had a trojan i caught it trying to access the net through ZA, so i used ewido and it found two more, that's what i have on my computer now, it works great, i just do a scan once a month to see if anything is there, and actually i was one of the first computers to get hit by a some russian trojan, when i got hit you googled it and nothing popped up like a week later there were over 100,000 entries. avast did not catch it neither did spybot, ad-aware or any on-line scan but ewido did.

I agree, ewido is A-#1 IMHO
Perhaps you should start Virus and Malware scanning d/l's before you open them as well (if you don't already do that)

I don't know where it came from. I always have ZA free and Avast running when on the Net, also PestPatrol and now SpywareBlaster. Most, nearly all, of my downloads are via MG, so I don't expect that it came that way.

I will suss out Ewido and see what that does. Thanks guys. Bazza

I disagree with this statement, partly because there are some things that can't be picked up with, say Norton, that can be picked up with Avast, or AVG.

Bazza have you given AVG a go?

You should only EVER have the one AntiVirus program installed.

Even if you're worried that it's not picking up everything, there are online scanners you can use.

Micro$$oft AntiSpyware is OK (better than Defender in my opinion), and CounterSpy and Trojan Hunter are pretty good, but only AntiSpyware is free.

While you should never have more than one resident AV program running, you can have a backup AV scanner; something like ClamWin or Bitdefender 8 Free Edition, that's strictly an on-demand scanner. You should shut down your resident AV while you're running the backup scan, to avoid any chance of conflict, but other than that there's no problem with this.

The one time I got a Trojan, I was unable to connect to online scans; I got redirected when I tried. That's when I decided not to rely on the online scans.

yep, I used to use AVG, but prefer Avast because I don't need to do anything. It does it all.

As for 2 or more AV programs. As suggested, you can have more than 1, but run only one at a time. Bazza

It has nothing to do with what's resident or active. You should only ever have 1 INSTALLED.

It's been discussed to death here, so I won't bother. Do a search.
