I currently have BitDefender, Kaspersky and StopZilla installed. Yes I know these shouldn't all be installed but I need to know what sollution will work best. So far none of them have helped me that well in getting a virus I know exists on this system and have known for awhile. It's evident in the slowdowns and bluescreening this computer experiences more frequently then I would like if you know what I mean.

Any of these or perhaps something else, such as AVG, or Nod32, which works the best out of ALL* of them?

Having more than one antivirus installed does not improve your protection!! It actually reduces it and it totally underminds the ability of any antivirus program to work properly. Uninstall ALL but one now. Then run a scan in safe mode. Make sure you then tell us what virus is being detected (if any) and where it is being found.

Blue screens and slowdowns can just as easily (and more than likely are) be caused by other non-malware issues. In fact having 3 antivirus applications installed can cause all of this and more.

Which one though? Stopzilla is out of the question since it requires you to pay to fully clean but it actually detected some stuff. The worst being a series of things called "systempolicies.registrydiasable" and "OwnGroup".

    So BitDefender or Kaspersky?

If you did not buy them then none of them are of any use to you permanently.

Did you buy any of them?

Stopzilla would not even be in my top 10 list.

In most cases, things like this are not malware. They are just things you may have configured. However as I stated, that is in "most cases" not all cases. Have you disabled any registry editing at all.

I got Kaspersky and BitDefender from a friend, so they were naturally free. But I had to remove BitDefender becuase my IE, Opera and Firefox wouldn't start up properly. So now I have Kaspersky only. My question is and has been what is the best anti virus solution out there besides the one I have? I appreciate the help.

They are not free! They are illegal copies which you cannot legally use nor can you get updates for them on an ongoing basis since you did not buy them.

There is no easy answer to what is the best solution. No antivirus, antispyware, firewall...etc is perfect. And everyone has personal likes and dislikes about how a program works. Also some people are more technical than others and can use tools that others may have a harder time dealing with (NOD32 may fit into this category).

Things we recommend (and these work very well) are in the below link:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

AVG Free would be a good choice for antivirus.

Actually Kaspersky does get updates. BitDefender didn't. I think I will keep using Kaspersky if AVG doesn't work. I know my computer does have a trojan.. so.. I don't know.

You will not get them after the time frame for your friend's license to expire. And it is still an illegal copy.

You must not install AVG if Kaspersky (or any other AVs) are still installed.

How do you know this? Do you have a log that reports one? As I said before, slowdowns and bluescreens are not necessarily related to malware.

If you really think you have an infection, please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
