After having lost everything on my PC, it's time to invest in a good backup program. All I see in the store is Norton Ghost. I am 2 yrs. into computing, know quite a bit, but need something I can understand. PC Mag had a list of backups and Acronis True Image looked good but where might I buy it? However, I have a question as to what some of you out there think is the best backup. My repairman suggested a Jump Thumb Drive which I looked at. I don't know if this J.T. Drive will copy everything I want because I want something that will copy to a CD everything I have on my computer, including my Desktop, IF that is possible. I have Windows XP. (P.S. Who would have ever believed that my Mouse arrow would freeze and cause me to have to wipe everything off my computer. Nothing could be saved; therefore, I am now a believer in backup. Learned the hard way. Many thanks, Helen.

You could always make restore point in windows xp and if anything ever happens you can just boot from the cd and go back to that point in time when your computer was working fine.

[rant] Why is the same 2 guys keep responding incorrectly and now in the same friggin thread...? If this keeps up to be neat, I will simply delete all of the posts by you guys. I hate to do that, but neither of you should be doing support at this point. He\She wants a specific suggestion as to how to back up. Your answers are now reflecting poorly on us and I can no longer stand idley by.[/rant]

SorryMkhelen. ... and now the answer to your question.

I use Acronis True Image, you can download it in our backup section. You can fit what you need on a DVD if you have a DVD burner, or a couple - 3 CD's. You can buy it online at their website. Another good option I have been using is Nero Burning ROM. A killer backup program with boot CD as well as a great CD\DVD burning tool. Also can be purchased online. Simply try either or, then follow the authors link from the download page to purchase. These programs make restoreable images of your drive. Optionally, a thumb drive or second hard drive is a good idea. Since hard drives are the #1 item on your PC that may break, using CD's seems like a good idea to me.

If we can help further, please start a new thread in the Software forum.
