I have used Biostar boards for the past few years as a reliable budget product. Everything today seems to be Asus. What is the skinny on a good bargain mfg? I'm looking for a board loaded with video, sound etc on the board.

Should I be watching for rebates or bundles in July/Aug?

Foxconn are a decent bargain basement mobo, just don't try and push them too hard, meaning OC'ing them.

I understood that Foxconn was an OEM for other brands but cna't sort it all out. What I know is that the usual outlets like Egg, Tiger etc do not show them much for direct purchase.

I will see what I can sort from a few searches but also appreciate other replies.

Yup, pretty meager pickings indeed. Friend's been running a Q6600 on one for the last 5 years and is happy with it, which is a waste of a good quad IMO.:innocent I also want to see what others have to recommend.:major

Most recently I saw a bargain AM3 board for my first purchase of DDR3 mem.
Frys has Kingstom DDR3 on deal with rebate: about $21.00 after the rebate kicks in for two sticks and the deadline is July 7 so I put the order in:

I don't like the fact that the PC Chips has red components which is just a personal quirk-- like not owning a red car.

Next step up from this seems to be a Gigabyte of some flavor in the $50 range.

In comments please say how the use of a Quad processor or other multi cores are a waste. I need the IDE header as well.

For me the goal would be to run my Azureus program, watch the news from streams at Democracy Now and record a speech to cd or dvd all at the same time. I do not know if that is a function of cores, multitasking or speed.

Glad this thread has some interest. I need to hear from those who are closer to the skinny than I am. :)
