When looking for a wired router what is important to consider? Aside from the number of ports and the price are they all basicly the same or do some offer better firewall protection than others?

    ...Right....

Er, yes, pretty much they've got the same functionality. Personally I like Netgear or D-Link routers myself, but really its a matter of personal preference.

    Features you should look for:
    Web-based setup
    NAT Support
    DHCP
    Auto-sensing ports

Most routers have these features, so you can't go too far wrong :)

As for firewalls, don't go out on a limb trying to get the most secure hardware firewall protection, because really for home use NAT will deter most script kiddies, and unless you like to annoy crackers then you shouldn't have any problems :)
