I have came into posession of a Dell Dimension 3000 which does not have an AGP slot so my old ti 4200 has gotta go.

What would you recommend me to fit instead of the integrated gfx chip which is rotten!

Price aint an issue at the moment so fire away.

Depends how much you wanna spend and what you use the computer for.

The machine is mostly used for web deveoplemt work but I have a backlog of PC games I would like to try.

My budget is about £120 but might consider more.

I know my options are limited but there has gotta be something out there for me.

    Thanks

Sorry adamr78 I read your post wrong I thought you said pci-e,I also missed "price ain't an issue."-"I'll walk into a car dealership and say that one day" ;)

about the best you'll get is the 5200 I have found a duel display 256,but you wont get that much enjoyement from it,I would recommend a new comp and save your money and put it towards that,I have comps for over 7 years and I'v never had a pci video card. What games do you wanna play?Heres the link anyway.-

The one I found is 20 pounds cheaper, and also a GF5200 :)

However, the one i posted only has 128MB memory... but, when dealing wth PCI gfx card, the thing is, I doubt that the memory will make much difference. I think.

Mine's an fx 5200 made by xfx "it will overclock to the moon"with double the memory and duel display?and price is no concern?

but still, while yours DOES have more memory, at PCI level, it won'd really make much diff, will it, how much memory it has.

Price is not a problem?he asked for the best.I'v got a better pci to agp converter than that, its called a new motherboard,I still believe its a bad idea buyin fresh parts for such an old mobo, your just floggin a dead horse.Anyway can you move like me.

I totally agree that a new mobo would be better, BUT, he said his budget is about 120 pounds - now, it would be quite tough to buy a new mobo / cpu for that kinda cash. And even if you do, you'll still be stuck with (most likely) an onboard gfx card, which would be definitely worse.
But, yea, if money is no object, I'd pay out for a new machine.

Do you think I could buy another DELL mobo and stick my existing chip on it?

This time one with an AGP slot.

    Just an idea!

The thing is its a dell you can't really upgrade them,I would "sell the dell"it rhymes ironic, and put that and the £120 towards a second hand comp, but thats just an opinion, alot depends on the games,if you look at the second comp in my sig,I'm sellin that soon and I only want about £150 if that.

The thing is it is not an old machine.
It just does not ship with an AGP slot

    Currently running a P4 2.8
    1 Gb of Ram

    Just a crap gfx card!!

If i can replace the mobo it would make more sense.

If you type in the service tag on the dell website it will give info about the motherboard and the rest of the computer, they might sell a replacement motherboard for later model with an agp port but it will be overpriced.the better route might be new case, mobo and power supply(to fit the non dell mobo). This could be acheived easily within £120 then stick you Ti4200 back in,but then your left with useless bits.Welcome to Dell Hell.
