Putting together the best system for $6000.00 Heres what I want it for and to do. Everything that can be will be liquid cooled, it will run Vista 64 bit and Linux 64 bit OS. It also needs to be able to be over clocked as much as possible. It will be used for demo's at shows . So I need suggestions on what kind of-
Case – liquid colling built in?
Mother broad – best for over clocking
    CPU- 64 bit
Ram – I was thing about 16 GIG or is this overkill?
Video Card- NVIDIA or ATI best for over clocking
    Power supply-
Hardrive – was thinking of a terabite

    Thanks in advance.:)

well this is gonna be fun :D

case: CM Stacker 830 would be my choice if i could pick any case but its pretty much up to u, just dont buy a budget POS

mobo: DFI makes good overclocking mobos

RAM: Crucial, Corsair, Patriot, OCZ, or Kingston are all good. 4 gigs will do great for a while to come. Crucial and Corsair are the best for overclocking but i believe Patriot just released some high performance overclocking memory too

PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W or higher

video card: 7950GTX or 7900GTX; dont think there are any SLI Intel boards out yet

Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme x6800

HDD: Seagate 7200.10 or 7200.9 series HDD, i think 750GB is the largest single drive out there now but you can always have more than one

The Zalman Reserator is a good liquid cooling system but its external. Swiftech makes good internal kits, same goes for DangerDen but not sure if those come in kits

    Few things I might add:

There are Intel SLI platforms available, but are more expensive and don't impress me as much as AMD's. Esp. for overclocking.
However, the Intel Core2Duos are the king of the hill in CPU land right now. (Although AMD has some supposed conroe killers coming out - if not already)

Intel systems like RAM with high frequency. AMD system like RAM with low latency. Look into timings as well as frequency and capacity. I do think that 16GB is overkill for anything but a high-end server for ALOT of client machine.

viper_boy403 is right about the hard drives. However, if you were to get a couple 500GB hard drives and a RAID controller, you could stripe the disks, get more capacity, and higher performance. Remember cache size tends to be the greatest deciding factor in hard drive's performance. I can't imagine why a demo machine would need so much disk space, so I'd have to recommend skipping a high capacity SATA drive for a Serial-Attached SCSI drive. Their transfer rates are equivalent to the best SATA drive, and it has independent processors for disk rotation and read arm movement, where ATA drives have only one for both. The drawback: their capacities aren't as high, dollar for dollar.

Why not a couple of raptor 150s on raid 0? I think that would be the fastest route for HD's.

hes going for capacity rather than ram speed. raptors arent that much faster than newer 7200RPM drives anyways

Which 7200 drive compares with the raptors? Im looking for a new HD myself and thought the raptor is only way to go for speed.

"LOL" I think for $5000 your can get a MRI, for a brain scan

    Phaz cooling
Best MOBO for Ocing, for NF2 NF3 & NF4 based system's DFI is The King
Conroe ?? thats ones not determined yet
Memory 16GB is Total waste if your talking DDR2 that will run you at least 1/2 your budget

    Show? Demo? What?

ha meant to say "raw speed" not "ram speed" lol

    anyways....

    here are some comparisons: http://www23.tomshardware.com/storage.html

the raptor is a bit faster in some parts but IMO it doesnt justify the extra cash

A bit faster? its crushes most by far. I really dont want to spend that much on 150gb but I think the speed of it would be insane.
