Best laptop for college freshman?

    This may seem like a dumb question but I was wondering what kind of laptop is recommended for a freshman entering college? I want to get one for my son. Should I look at the ipad or stick with a PC style? Any input would be appreciated.

    Usually colleges will give recommendations and also better deals on buying a computer through the college/university.

    Also, if your son needs Microsoft Office, be sure you and/or he visits the college bookstore. Most college bookstores sell certain software at greatly discounted prices to students and faculty.

    As far as the computer goes, just about any laptop on the market will be suitable for "general use".
