I want to upgrade my Viewsonic graphic series crt monitor to a flat screen lcd like a 22" or something similar. What would be a good lcd flat screen under $500 for gaming?

dude get the dell 2407wfps 24inch for 600. If you are that broke only to get something around 500 bucks go on newegg get sceptre 22 inch and it has hdmi,dvi,mic/hs jack, dvi, vga and a 5ms time. The best gaming monitor besides the dell 2407wpfs 24inch. Ps if u use the hdmi with a hdmi convert from dvi you can max out 1080i on your res instead of the recommened dvi res

you're looking for something with low response times. the best gaming monitors have response times as low as 2ms. also, you may want to pick out a monitor in person (but still buy it online cause its probably cheaper) so you can see which has the best color and sharpness

Most cheaper LCDs in the 22" range use a Chi mei 6 bit panel which produces an okay picture, but is nothing to brag about. For $500, try looking around for an LCD with a 8 bit pannel. Most of those are really beautiful. My current monitor has a 5ms response time and I notice zero ghosting when playing games. The lower the response time, the better the the LCD will be for gaming, but you also have to look for good color depth (8 bit), and contrast ratios (800/1000 : 1). The Dell 2007WFP is really nice, at $350, but you can always go better and bigger with a little more cash.

viper has an awesome point, if at all possible try the monitor in real life before buying online, sometimes you can go by specs, but honestly the only true way is to use it in real life for a bit to determine how much you like it.

yea ive seen some really "nice" ones online then seem them in person and my reaction is, "WTF this looks like crap!" if its possible, check it out in person first

One of the local retailers here has a Viewsonic 22" 1680 x 1080. I'll check out the specs on it. It looks good in the store and is under $350. Thanks to all for feedback.

My choice is samsung CRT Monitor, I dont think the flat monitor is any good for gaming especially when you are playing 3D games

LCDs have come along way, since the early days of LCD technology and now some of the modern ones are just as good as CRTs, plus they are easier on the eye and take less space up, I have a 21" Samsung 8ms Refresh Rate LCD adn its fine for gaming.

Have to agree with you I do like Samsung LCD and Monitors
