    Good day

PC runs at 2.8ghz , has pci express x1 connector and x16 connector slots, and
a 305 watt power source. I have a 1 gig graphics card (make uknown as I am away right now) bought about 4 years ago.
What is the best upgrade card to run under those specs for under $150 or equivalent price in other currencies.

    Thank you

    Hi

If you could give us the make and model of the current GFX card you have, how much RAM does your PC have as well as what Windows version and Service Pack you are using that will be helpful?

Also what type of things do you wish to achieve with a new GFX card? Curious as to why your current card is not enough, as you may not get any more performance out of a newer card as the rest of your system and PSU may be a limiting factor. So I wouldnt want to suggest something thats not going to be a good performance hit for the $$ limit you have set.

Working off the little info posted...
    GTX650 should work..
As David said, this may not improve your performance all that much as you will have other bottle necks. Also your power supply will be working hard. I am assuming you have a base system, single or at most two HDD. If you have a very full system your power supply will not take the extra load from the video card.

    Good day

Thanks for the replies. I have 3 Gig Ram,on Win XP SP 3. As I am 5000 miles away from my PC at the moment all I can say is the present card is 1 gig about 4+ years old. I have two HDDs on pc and the 500 Gig one has the games on it.
My present card is just about ok but is on the verge with the some of the war
games etc. I have acquired a 2nd pc and I use this with my TV but was intending to put the present card in there. Hence looking for something new.
I have spent considerable time weighing up all the myriad on offer and ended up
more confused at the end. Just today I was thinking that a ASUS GeForce GT740 Graphics Card might be the one but could not find a review anywhere.
    So thats where things stand

I agree with DOA, when you get back home, check the current cards make and model and check that list posted and look for something higher in spec (the GT740 is a good card) that will give you a performance hit over your current one.

I wouldn't want to advise you blindly without knowing what you currently use.

    Hi

Your advice is probably the wisest and one which I have been 50/50 over. So I think I will take that route. My thanks to all who gave me advice and the best for 2015.

I have been to that site on occasion, their test is heavily biased towards nVidia cards so I posted Tom's which is a little more even handed.

When you have your current hardware info then post back and we will be only too glad to offer some suggestions and we are pretty honest at times in just saying better off save your cash and get a new PC further down the line over suggesting hardware that only gives a few % performance hike.

On benchmarking sites I tend to read and review a fair few of them as no one of them is ever perfect, so best to have a big picture from a multitude of sites.

I wondered about that but having no knowledge of Graphics cards and being beswoggled by the vast array was prepared to grasp at anything. Thanks for Toms Hardware but as you have advised this is only filling in time till I get to my pc and check the card out. Funny enough I also looked at some machines and found that what I was looking to pay for a card would buy me a third of one so more food for thought. Like my car I sort of felt that my Dimension at 2.8 gh would see me out and I find my flying skills are losing ground . Coming from the old days and remembering POWs etc I am usually into WW2 strategy types. However the demands keep increasing and so.

Anyway once again when I have more info I will come back
