Best overall PC cleanup/doctor software?

My old Toshiba Satellite is an oldie by a goody. But over the years, it's accumulated the usual junk, and is somewhat slower and quirkier than in its younger days. I'd like to run a general cleanup, but also disk-doctor, XP-tweak, registery-fix application.

What's the most capable software out there?

Also, when I run something like Internet Sweeper and it wipes all the temp files and whatnot, is it really getting everything? Is there a really comprehensive cleaner program and totally deletes all that invisible crap clogging up my hard drive?

    Thanks!

i'm on a 3.5 year old toshiba satellite too!
anyways, for cleaning the registry, i use regcure. It's rated the highest in many sites
for overall cleaning i once used this program called speedupmypc, it cleans out everything, MRU lists, temporary internet and firefox files, your computer's temporary files and lots of others and it was great!

I use several different utils: CCleaner for HD and registry cleaning, Wise Reg Cleaner, DK Lite Defrag, NTRegOPT for reg optimizing, Dial-A-Fix to keep my .dll's in shape, and once in a while I run Advanced Window Care, and FreeRAM XP Pro is always running in the background. I run all these utils once a week, usually every Sunday nite..... they're all free and all are available from Major Geeks.

having that many programs alone can greatly slow your computer down , especially on a laptop

Not really. None of them run in the background except for FreeRAM XP. My PC is pretty fast; I have ZERO lag when I open windows, start programs, or surf the web. Besides those few tools, I have probably 40 or 50 different programs installed and my PC hauls as$... the number of installed apps really has nothing to do with speed. It depends on available system resources, and what runs at start-up, and I keep the start-up lean and mean: antivirus, firewall, antispyware, and FreeRAM are about it.... all the others are only run when needed.

Diskeeper is a good defragmenter, works in the background without hammering your resources.
