You do not need $$$ to install a quality registry cleaner. Go to MG downloads-registry & you will find several free registry cleaners. I prefer RegClean - but first you need to backup your current registry. Erunt is a quality backup application. Download both & backup your current registry prior to cleaning. If OS is XP, create a manual restore point as well. You need to exercise caution in any change in your registry as it is the heart & soul of your system.

Do not make all changes at once - pick a few, clean them, reboot & see what happens. Also, have a supply of clean underwear - my first reg cleaning had me trembling. Do a new backup after each step as well as a new restore point & test, check error logs, etc. It is a time-consuming process but well worth the effort. You will notice a signifigant increase in perfomance.

Good luck - will keep an eye on this post. Also, other members with far greater knowledge than myself will add their own valuable insight. Registry cleaning is important & will get easier once you get past that initial point. My first experience was over 160 items so I know what you are going through.

    Best Wishes,

I agree with all that Slim said. For a second chance if you delete something that shouldn't have been, you might want to take a look at RegSupreme . It's a really fast app and automatically makes backups when you change your registry. It won't do anything until you name the backup file it creates and it puts a date on the backup. You can use it free until you want to update it, then you have to register and pay for it (about 12.00 US). Again like Slim says look at everything it lists (you do it by highlighting the item and reading the complete path). Anything you're not sure of don't be afraid to ask about here before you delete.
    Good Luck

PS: Ethan is right, you pick up speed in your system with hardware but faster boot times are nice also.

wait so by deleting registry entries the bootup will faster? thats good to know.

RegClean has a backup system in it. It is one of the tabs just so ya know. So you can download Regclean free for both programs.

Don't all these prorams pretty much do the same thing; get rid of unwanted registry entries?

You're too kind - glad to be here. Beat's the hell out of hanging out at some bar & risking DUI charges or worse going home. Just happy to be accepted & involve myself in a productive process.

    Best wishes to everyone,

    Slim
