Best results for backup of say 12gig drive.

    Right i am curious to know what is (to you peoples) the best software and way of backing up and restoring your operating system that holds about 12 gigs.

    You see i have along with XP a good few programmes like graphic software and other software that i want to backup together, so if i ever need to reinstall i can just use the backup image i made.

    I know there is many software out there but i also know it is hit and miss when the backup is large.So any ideas on the best software for this and how the best way to go about it..

    Acronis True Image is my method of choice and funny enough I did a backup yesterday of 18gigs and it took around 10mins tops, in the past when I have restored the created images I'm back up ad running in less than 15mins, but I do keep the images on a HD opposed to DVD or CDR, so restoring from DVD/CD would be longer in both creating and restoring.

    Never had an issues with Acronis TI, great app IMO :)

    All you need to do is create the Acronis Restore CD, so if you ever cannot get to your GUI, you boot to the cd and run the software from there... easy peasy ;)

    Brilliant Dave, your post gives me confidence that backing up is worth while rather than full reinstall of everything which is a pain in the but.. :rolleyes:

    It sounds exactly what i have been after..Thanx mate, i am about to look into it right this second..:)

    Well Dave it is all done and dusted. :) dam dude it was so straight forward.made the bootable CD incase, made a new partition on my slave drive and made my first full backup, all went so smoothly. This Acronis software is pretty good truth be told..:)

    Thanx Halo for the good info, from my post to an answer to completion was all done within an hour. :)
