Best, smallest, simplest printer

I want a very small, very high quality printer than can print on full size sheets of paper. Something that focuses on maximum ink efficiency and build quality, but something that doesn't have hundreds of useless "extra features".

Sorry I haven't used a printer in years, if you want a copy will provide it electronically. I realize at times one may be needed to post notices, but that need hasn't arisen here. Have been contemplating buying a good scanner.though. Ink is more of an issue with me than bloat, and you could install just the printer drivers and not the full blown software. How about a dot matrix printer? ;)

I have a similar version of this model at my shop. In the past 5 months, I've printed about 5,000 pages on it without any glitches.

    * Print, copy, scan & fax (but about the size of a printer-only model).

    * Easy to setup & use (not a ton of crapware like HP).

    * Individual color ink tanks - cheaper to replace than a single color cartridge.

At $70, it's one of the best deals on the market.

One way is to check with your favourite cartridge ink filler store if you have one.
They will usually recommend a printer that they find the best, and that refills cartridges the easiest.

If they also sell printers, that is usually a good clue as to what they recommend. They are not going to recommend a printer that reflects badly on them. My $0.02 worth.

Is it true that printers that have separate ink cartridges for the different colors are more efficient?

It is a long time since I had a printer with separate cartridges (an old Brother) but the cartridges were definitely much cheaper to buy, at the time.

    For color printing, yes.

Since I have both a Brother and a Canon with separate color ink tanks, I've found that one color (example: magenta) may run out while the other two color cartridges still have 25%-33% ink left. This is especially true if you're printing multiple copies of flyers, Valentine's Day cards, etc. that skew towards one dominant color such as red.
