Hey, I have an Intel QX6700 and I hate how loud the fan is, as well as how hot it still runs with that monster. I want a more effective way to cool the system, but have read too many horror stories of pumps in water cooling gone bad. I don't want to be without a machine for any period of time, so water cooling may be out unless there is a very reliable machine out there that will suit my needs. Does anyone have one they can reccomend that would lower my temps dramatically? I've built this machine with my own 2 hands, so I know a lot about the insides of it, and what is what so there's no need to talk to me like I'm an idiot. I just want some suggestions on how to properly cool the system down, I may even want to overclock in the future so nothing is overkill in my opinion. there are 6 case fans 3 intake 3 exhaust. Then there's the power supply, one fan on each of my 2 graphics cards, and then the CPU fan. So I doubt very seriously another fan will solve my problem. Thanks for reading.

Have you any fan speed controllers hooked up to those case fans?

Absolutely, and the're cranked! I was looking at a liquid cooler by Thermaltake called the Bigwater 760i, it looks good from the description, but there are no reviews, and the product is not even on Newegg yet. It retails for about $160 and there are a few on Ebay NIB for about $145. What is your opinion on the product, and perhaps others like it. What is my best bet here. I don't want a pump to go bad, and fry the whole thing.

I would start by turning all your fans down to their minimum speeds.
Start with the highest positioned exhaust fan - turn turn the controller up until you can hear the fan spin up faster, then back it off slightly.
Repeat for the other 2 exhaust fans.
    Check temps.
Max fan speed rarely equates to max cooling.

I would look at a heat-pipe cooler before stumping up a lot of cash for water-cooling - the Arctic-Cooling Freezer Pro is an excellent bit of kit.

My fan speed controller is one knob that controls the speed of all fans, so I can't experiment with that which sucks. I have a quad core processor don't forget, that is why my case is so hot.

Seriously consider more fan control. All those fans will not be doing each other a favour!
I would try disconnecting 2 'in' fans and the lowest 'out' fan first if there's no individual control

just 'cause its a quad core doesnt mean it runs hotter, its still a core 2 which are really light on power consumption compared to previous generation processors. As for your cooling, the majority of your heat will be coming off your GPUs. Look into getting a PCI slot exhaust fan, u can find them on www.xoxide.com and some other places as well. I have the Bigwater SE and it keeps my OC'd P4 nice and cool. It is stock 3.0ghz and when i was testing it at 3.8ghz it ran under load at 50C with the voltage bumped from 1.36 to 1.475. Id say that's pretty impressive for a single radiator water cooling setup. Ive never had any problems with it, been running strong for over a year now. I have the pump's RPM sensor hooked up to my case's fan sensor which has an alarm in case the fan (or in this case the pump) stops so I have a good way to keep tabs on it. There are lots of accessories you can add to increase performance as well, which u can find on thermaltake's website

If your case has a cone on side for cpu removce it and point an 80mm fan down onto processor. I run a quad and after 72 hours at 100% usage max temp was 49c
