Best sound deadener?

Does anyone use any kind of sound deadener in their case? My new CPU is going to have a monster of a fan on it (Tornado 92mm) and I don't want to become deaf. My PSU isn't quite either (PC Power & Cooling 510 Deluxe). I was looking at the Pak matting. I also have experience with Dynomat Xtreme that I used in my car. Anyone have an opinion?

 

Ear Plug's?

I Have used foam and HVAC filter material (not fiberglass) my main purpose was not for sound, but for filtering incomming air to keep inside of case clean, a side affect was a quieter rig.
I also seal all gaps, cracks, seams, etc. I have even used electrical tape to seal unwanted areas.

When I purchase fans etc, fan speed and noise/desibles/power consumption are big consideration.

Depending on what you use and where, some material's could cause an insulating affect, possibly creating heat or disrupting good air flow.

 

Well... with the Tornados I belive that its a high pitched whining noise... so you need somthing to absorb that high pitched sound and not re-radiate it. I would go with some high density foam with thin ridges cut into the surface. That should then absorb the high frequency waves. I would then have a fairly thick (about 5-10mm) layer of foam on the inside of the panel mount, so the sound isnt re-radiated quite as much.

Its all a compromise though. The thicker the foam is, the more it unsulates and the more uneven the surface is the more it disrupts airflow. So the tradeoff is for quietness for high temperatures. Of course, if you use watercooling, this isnt an issue

One thing you could do is mount the case on some sort of softer block (polysyrene perhaps?) to stop the desk its on from rumbling, making it quieter.
