Ive used Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, but have discovered that Norton and McAfee can really mess up your computer by blocking a lot of access to programs, and sync issues.

Ive liked using Kaspersky and Im currently using it right now, but Ive heard of BitDefender being a great program as well.

What Im currently looking for really is a very good Internet security program that blocks intruders, hackers, registry edits unauthorized, virus prot, etc

    Any suggestions??

so do i, i'm using Kaspersky too and it's very good antivirus.
i've never heard about BitDefender, so i can't say whether it is good or bad. There is another antivirus, which is considered the best, NOD32, and may be in some time i'll get it.

Personally AntiVirus apps are just one part of the malware protection puzzle, while they do a good job I cannot help but think as I just use freeware AVs ( Avast or AVG ) these days, that it just not one app to aid in protecting you but a few well chosen ones to backup the AV.

Those being competent, Firewalls ( Hardware and Software help or at least a software one ), 1 or 2 spyware scanners, 1 resident and one on-demand to back each outher up, plus all OS updates and patches and finally the big one in the USER, good surfing habbits and not being click happy are crucial to protecting against malware.

While Nod32 gets rave reviews, you can still using the below protect yourself.... I have.

How to Protect yourself from malware!

Upshot to my post is that with care any AV can suffice and protect you, so use what you feel works best for you, if your malware free using the apps you have installed then great you have found the sweet spot, if not then review your surfing and downloading habits as those are the main offenders.

There's a great site that I point people asking this type of question to. It's http://www.av-comparatives.org. They do independent comparatives of various antivirus products. All of the suggestions made here are covered, and objectively rated.

Yah, after reading the reports for December 2006 at that site, no doubt, Nod32 had the highiest score on comparison.

Hhmm..... Well perhaps Ill give NOD32 a try and see what happens.

I agree with Halo and have been using various free tools to keep protected, and haven't been hit in over four years, even when I did something stupid, one of the apps saved me from grief

Yes, sorry, I don't mean to imply that this is the endalll security tool or that you have to pay for top protection.

Safe browsing tops all other preventative measures. Doing this with the WORST antivirus product out there is likely safer than not doing it with the best.

I've never used anything but the free products, and I've never had an issue, either.

Im using NOD32 and im very happy with the results, speed, and detection rates. I have also tried kaspersky which is also an excellent program. The only fault I found with kaspersky is that I found that it noticably slowed down the internet, but on saying that there is the plus side with the pro-acvtice defense and other options which is part of KAV. Regarding as to which is the best of the two, its swings and roundabouts and is down to personal opinion. I prefer the speed and lighter footprint which nod32 seems to offer

Gotta throw my two cents in here.

For me Avast! Anti-virus seems to work the best. I repeat, FOR ME. The boot time scan may take a while, but runs before any viruses have a chance to hide themselves away. I tried AVG's AV and ran a complete scan in safe mode, then unistalled, and ran Avast!'s boot time scan and found 4 viruses that AVG had missed.

    That functionality won me over.
