Best way to cool a laptop

I recently got a new HP laptop. Everything is great about it except that it over heat when I open many application, especially the extensive ones.

Want suggestions on the best way to keep a laptop cool...?

 

Don't know what clearance it has with the surface it's on, but if the air output is underneath, worth raising the base too see if it helps a little or perhaps getting a laptop cooler base would help mate.

 

Actually the air inflow from the back and the outflow from below. I have tried raising it. I have checked some laptop cooler base, but was wondering if there is something more practical.

Also for the laptop cooler base, is there any brand or specifications that differentiate between a good and fair cooler base?

 

unfortunately, using a laptop on your laptop tends to block the airflow, or just add more heat to it. I use mine on a tabletop, or in my living room, on a tv tray. If it's still too hot, then your best bet is a cooler for underneath.

 

How old is the laptop and have you attempted to clean the cooling fan and associated vents?
