best way to defrag

    Ive been using the D.Defrag, that comes with W'xp (Pro)...but wondered if it was the best one to use or is there something better?

    Best Option is O&O Defrag as it has a few defrag options, the best being an Access defrag which will move all your commonly used apps to the best position on the HD for quick access but this is retail software,

    O&O Pro

    Now O&O has a lite freeware version that only iirc does a space defrag but is still mucg better at that than the built in XP one ( which is a lite/lite version of Diskkeepers defrag app )

    O&O 2000 Freeware version


    another defrag tool which I tested today was this Power Defragmenter GUI 2.0.105 which did seem to speed up the slow starting PC I was at earlier.


    O&O would be my choice tho :)

    I use Diskeeper 9 Pro. The great thing about it is that it has a set and forget feature. When a certain level of defragmentation occurs, it automatically kicks in and defrags. It has not stopped me from doing anything else on the puter and has not slowed my system down very much. Because it is automatic, it only takes 1 or 2 minutes to perform the defrag. Depending on what I have done, it may defrag once or twice a day.

    I also use diskeeper 9 pro, I have it set to run when the screensaver kicks in, I've used diskeeper for about a year and a half...started with 8

    Contig is the defrag software from sysinternals,excessive software uses their engine with their interface.Engine usually refers to the processing part of the software,ie. minus the interface. http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Contig.html contig.exe will be the engine here.

    contig.exe is included with Power Defragmenter GUI 2.0.105,so no extra download.

    I'm using O&O v8 Pro version and it's quick and may be run in the background. Been using O&O for years with no problems.
